Heading to Portsmouth for the Great South Run? Whether you’re taking part in this iconic charity event or supporting friends, family or colleagues, Portsmouth Park and Ride’s dedicated service gets you to the heart of the action.

We’re working with First Bus Solent to operate a PR4 park and ride service throughout the Great South Run weekend, giving you an easy route to Southsea Common. Buses run frequently and take approximately 20 minutes to reach Clarence Pier.

To help ensure the event runs safely, a number of roads along and around the race route will be closed during the weekend. On Sunday, these closures will affect how close buses can get to Southsea Common once they come into force. Buses departing from the park and ride site after 9.20am on Sunday will terminate at alternative stops until the roads reopen once runners have passed through.

The PR1 service will continue to operate throughout weekend to city centre and The Hard On Sunday the road closures for the event will also affect the PR1 route, with buses terminating at City Centre South until closures are lifted.

Here’s a guide to the PR4 weekend service:

Saturday 17 October:

  • First PR4 bus of the day departs park and ride at 7am
  • The final PR4 bus returns from Clarence Pier at 5.25pm
  • Buses run every 20 minutes

Sunday 18 October:

  • The first PR4 bus of the day departs at 6.20am
  • The last morning PR4 bus to Clarence Pier departs at 9.20am. After that, the final stop will be City Centre South
  • The final PR4 bus returns from Clarence Pier at 5.25pm
  • Buses run every 10 minutes

You’ll find the Clarence Pier stop on Clarence Esplanade, near the pedestrian entrance to Seafront the Esplanade car park.

You can save money and help keep park and ride running smoothly by travelling with friends and family and car sharing where possible. Services are typically busiest from 8am, so if you can, we’d recommend arriving a little earlier. Plan your journey before you travel and view the timetable

A day return ticket costs just £5 and covers up to five people travelling together. Regular passengers can also use their Flexipass. You can buy tickets through the First Bus app or directly from the driver using cash, card or contactless payment.

If you’re travelling around the city during the event, consider a more sustainable way to get around. Walking, cycling, or hiring a Voi e-bike or e-scooter can be convenient options for shorter journeys.

Please note that Portsmouth Park and Ride is a public access car park with a limited number of parking spaces and operates on a first come, first parked basis.
